ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

Focusing-oriented art therapy (FOAT®), developed by Dr. Laury Rappaport is a mindfulness-based approach that integrates Eugene Gendlin’s Focusing with the principles and practices of art therapy. FOAT® is based on 40 years of practice with individuals, groups, couples and families, and organizations to address a wide variety of clinical concerns including: anxiety, depression, trauma, health and wellness, and more. This workshop will provide: an overview of the history and development of FOAT®; the basic principles and practices of FOAT®; and an overview of mindfulness—and how it can be integrated with FOAT®. In addition, Dr. Laury Rappaport will present how FOAT® and mindfulness practices can be used as tools for stress reduction. Applications will include methods for self-care and for working with others.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

-Participants will be able to describe 2 foundational principles of Focusing-Oriented Art Therapy

-Participants will be able to describe what the Focusing Attitude is and how it is a core component cultivating mindful awareness and acceptance.

-Participants will be able to describe how to integrate mindfulness practice with Focusing-Oriented Art Therapy.

Laury Rappaport, Ph.D., MFT, ATR-BC, REAT is the author of “Focusing-Oriented Art Therapy: Accessing the Body’s Wisdom and Creative Intelligence”, editor/author of “Mindfulness and the Arts Therapies: Theory and Practice”, and has numerous published book chapters and journal articles. Dr. Rappaport is also the Founder/Director of the Focusing and Expressive Arts Institute and is a Certifying Focusing Coordinator and Trainer with The Focusing Institute. She has a broad range of clinical expertise with a variety of populations and currently has a private practice in Santa Rosa, California, United States.

    Additional Charges: Annual membership renewal date is July 1st, a late fee of $50 applies to renewal on or after August 1st. For overseas bank transfer for event or membership, an additional $50 service charge applies.
