HKAAT - July 2017

Dear Members and Friends,

The 14th HKAAT AGM had successfully completed on May 21st 2017. Thank you everyone for attending this important meeting. Thanks to all who critically examined the various aspects of the association’s operations and provided thoughtful input so HKAAT could make proper decisions for our next generation to come.

Gratitude

Special thanks to all members and those who share their specialized skills, knowledge, and passion to volunteer their time and energy to assist our association in meeting its goals, vision, mission and values. It is my pleasure to get to know you and work with you in the past years. Many thanks to our local and overseas art therapists, who had shared their expertise, research, and clinical experience at the 2016 art therapy conference. Their contributions made the conference a great success. The conference has attracted over 200 participants and guests from HK, Taiwan and Singapore. Exceptional thanks to those who offered the simultaneous interpretation during the conference. I would also like to share my sincere thanks to our executive committee, who volunteered in many capacities to make the conference truly memorable.

Heartfelt thanks to our professional members in developing the art therapy profession in Hong Kong. Ms. Regina Au, Ms. Grace Chan, Ms. Bianca Lee, Ms. Venus Leung, and Ms. Yana Ng shared their unique experiences serving various communities using art therapy in the “Meet the Art Therapists” events. Many of our professional members are featured and interviewed by the press and different forms of media including radio and television. Thank you all for dedicating your time to assist the association in achieving our goals and mission. Your contributions have promoted and enhanced the development of art therapy in Hong Kong and uplifted the professional standard among the mental health professionals. Sincere thanks to our members who go above and beyond to make the above activities and events viable. The EXCO team (Ms. Tristan Chan, Ms. Hoilam Tang, Ms. Grace Chan, Ms. Krisdean Law, Ms. Bianca Lee, and Ms. Venus Leung) had spent tireless hours over the past year serving on the HKAAT’s Executive Committee. As members of the EXCO, these individuals are devoting for both their volunteering roles in the HKAAT and completing the specific responsibilities of their official positions. Their devotion made all the events of HKAAT happened and continue to bring HKAAT forward to become a prestige and professional art therapy association in Hong Kong.

Lastly, wholeheartedly thanks to our consultants: Dr. Yim Kim-Ping, Ms Emily Shum, and Mr. William Chow. We have benefited greatly from their wise counsel, good advice, and participation in sharing vision and decision process of the future of HKAAT.

My terms in the Executive Committee and as President, have come to the end. I still find it unbelievable that I have been the President of Hong Kong Association of Art Therapistsfor the past 4 years. What an honour and privilege it has been, and what a blessing for me to share this journey with such talented, dedicated, and wise Executive Committee members. I cannot thank you all enough for your help and support. And most of all, for your continuing effort to participate and be involved with this most venerable and important organization. Thank you again, and best wishes always!

Hong Kong Association of Art Therapists

HKAAT will be stepping into its 15th year of Anniversary next year. We are sad to say farewell to our beloved former president, Sarah Tong, and excited to have our newly elected president, Bianca Lee, to lead HKAAT into a new era.

We are now working on renovating our website, maintaining an informative and educational Facebook page, and implementing a new format of newsletter, in order to let our members and general public gain access and learn about HKAAT and art therapy easier than before. Please like our Facebook page where you can get all of our updates in the next few months.

Once our new website is ready, you will get a chance to learn more about our professional members as in previous PDF newsletter issues. This season’s featuring professional member will be Ms. Mimi Tung, a US trained art therapist who’s providing great art therapy service and education locally.

In our new website, we will periodically put on the latest art therapy related book reviews where you can glance what art therapy resources are available in the book markets. Our professional members, Tristan Chan and Grace Chan, have given our upcoming books reviews. They have chosen several books that give good advice for those who are interested in pursuing Art therapy as a profession, and the history of art therapy in Asia.

The Past Events section of the website will have review on what HKAAT has done in the past season, and we are excited to announce that we will launch a new series of art therapy workshops: two art therapists will be giving a workshop in January and April 2018. They will talk about art Journaling and how art therapy works for children who are suffering from trauma. We hope that you will continue to support HKAAT as we make up-to-date changes and venture into a new era with the new leadership.

deTour 2017 Workshop - Create, Reimagine, Reinvent Peace
This workshop / open studio time allows participants to experience collaborative art making and reimagining peace. We seek to provide a supportive and safe space for participants to express themselves freely. Each open art session will be followed by a short talk about topics of self care through the arts, particularly during the chaotic times one may be experiencing, as well as an overview about art psychotherapy.

Community Arts Event, 2017
On May 13, 2017 during our community arts event, HKAAT EXCO & volunteers shared an excellent time making art on daily objects with rehab residents at The Providence Garden for Rehab. Thanks to everyone who participated in this meaningful event which promotes social inclusion through art expressions.
